As part of the Workers’ Educational Association’s ethos, vision and values we are keen to try and break down barriers for people facing digital exclusion due to various reasons, and to develop, expand and encourage learners and communities in using digital technology.
We have developed a project with Sainsbury’s as a ways to engage with the local community. We are offering a 6 week course to be held in the café in Thetford Sainsbury’s on a Wednesday afternoon from Wed 19th Feb – Wed 26th March at 3.30pm – 6pm. There are 10 places available to adults of 19 years or older and the those potential students who are receiving means-tested benefits can attend the course for free, however for those who do not meet the fee waiver criteria, course fee support maybe available through the WEA if on low household income (usually below £15,276).
The aim of the course is to help people develop skills in order to get online and then help them stay online. The content of the course will cover the very basics from switching on the laptop to using Skype, email, searching the internet, shopping and staying safe online and depending on progress and individual needs, job searching and creating CV’s.
